The is a region where car is king and fuel is low-cost, frequently leaving little incentive to find more environmentally-friendly methods of walking around.

But this year, as protests across the Middle East have actually pushed up the cost of oil, the concern of finding alternative sources of fuel has entered sharp focus.

In a region that has among the greatest carbon footprints in the world, one organization is making the most of the growing pressure to discover alternatives to oil. It's set up the Middle East's first plan to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It's proving lucrative too, currently their client-list contains McDonald's.
